BLOCK of the MONTH
FIVE
Designed and Created by Donna

This block introduces a new block technique called "Flying Geese" whilst building on the
previous techniques of "Half Square Triangles" (HST's) and piecing. This block can be
personalised by fussy cutting meaningful fabric for the windows and doors. My windows reflect
the woods around me ideal for walking and the flora and fauna to be found in (and eating!) my
garden. Hand embroidery or applique can also be used to personalise this block further....as will
be seen when these blocks are brought together in the final Sampler Quilt.

BLOCK of the MONTH
SIX
Designed and Created By Donna

This Months BoM is all about Fabric Manipulation to give an old favourite Log Cabin a modern
day twist. Using a folded patchwork technique a 3D Pin Wheel forms the focal point of a Log
Cabin block. Don’t fancy folding fabric but would still like to make a Log Cabin? No problem
there instructions inside to cover both options. Traditionally the central piece of a Log Cabin is
Red to represent the Heart or Hearth. An alternative to this is Yellow to represent the “Sunshine
through the window”   Alternatively you could add a modern spin and go for a Rainbow!

It also provides you with the opportunity to Fussy Cut a central block to showcase your fabrics
or a piece of embroidery. Speaking of showcasing you could use vintage tray cloths and
embroidered handkerchiefs to include them in something modern and get them out of drawers!

BLOCK of the MONTH
SEVEN – Basket of Love
Designed and Created By Donna

This Months BoM is an On Point Piecing and Applique combination. The comprehensive photo
instruction guide takes you step by step through the process of creating this block the 7th of  9 in
our Sampler Quilt series.

Like previous blocks there is room to personalise this block, you could stop at the on point
piecing and produce a block with an “empty” basket. Or continue by adding “contents” to your
basket using applique,  I’ve added Hearts on flower stems but you could easily adapt it to contain
spools of thread, scissors, a picnic, or cakes J What will you fill your basket with ? we’d love to
see your finished results.
